Graphic & Disturbing
  • An alien creature violently bursts from Broussard's chest during a dinner scene, spraying blood across the table in front of the crew
  • The full-grown creature twists off Melkonis's head 'like pulling a chicken's head off,' shown as a sudden, brutal kill
  • Faust is crushed in an airlock door until his body is described as crushed to three inches thick, causing catastrophic decompression
  • Hunter is set on fire by a flamethrower and used as a shield by the creature, and Standard is later found partially eaten inside a cocoon
  • The alien's acidic blood eats through metal floors and the ship's hull, and the creature is ultimately incinerated by rocket exhaust in space
  • Multiple crew members die on screen or their deaths/remains are shown directly rather than implied; the overall tone is grim, bloody, and suspense-driven rather than action-heavy

  • Strong language is frequent: 'hell' (12 times), 'da**' (8 times), 's**t' (5 times), and 'b**tard' (2 times)
  • One use of the extreme profanity 'f**king' occurs in the script
  • Milder exclamations 'cr*p' (3 times) and 'Christ' (4 times) are also used
  • No slurs are noted in the extraction, but the combination of one f-word and pervasive strong language pushes this to the highest language tier

Deeply Disturbing
  • The face-hugger parasite attacks and clamps onto Broussard's face in a disturbing, unsettling sequence
  • The chestburster's eruption from Broussard's torso during a meal is sudden and graphically disturbing
  • The crew's discovery of Standard cocooned and partially consumed is a deeply unsettling horror image
  • Tense sequences include the crew hunting the growing alien through dark ventilation shafts and the creature revealing itself hidden in the lifeboat with Roby
  • A tense countdown to engine core meltdown while the creature hunts the last survivor adds sustained dread
  • The villain (the alien) is designed to be maximally frightening — silent, nearly unkillable, and lurking in darkness — with no comic relief to soften the horror; scares are resolved only through violent death or narrow escape

Alien — Heads Up for Parents

Despite being a well-known sci-fi classic, parents should be aware the chestburster scene at the dinner table is extremely graphic and bloody, and the discovery of Standard's cocooned, partially-eaten body is a genuinely disturbing horror image not softened by any humor.

About Alien

A commercial spaceship crew answers a distress signal on a desolate planet and unknowingly brings aboard a deadly alien parasite that grows into a nearly unstoppable killing machine. The film is a slow-building sci-fi horror thriller defined by dread, isolation, and brutal violence as the crew is picked off one by one. It's tense, gory, and relentlessly frightening rather than action-packed or fun.

⚠️
Watch with your child
The combination of graphic body horror (the chestburster scene, decapitation, and cocooned corpse), one use of extreme profanity, and sustained overwhelming tension (the decompression and meltdown countdown sequences) means teens under 17 should watch with a parent present to contextualize the horror and discuss the disturbing imagery.
