About Ready Player One

Ready Player One follows Wade Watts, a teenager in a dystopian 2045, as he competes in a massive virtual reality treasure hunt inside the OASIS to win control of the technology and its late creator's fortune. Along the way he teams up with friends against the ruthless IOI corporation, all set against a backdrop of nonstop 1980s/90s pop-culture references and high-energy action sequences.

Younger viewers around ages 11-13 will benefit from a parent present to discuss the disturbing description of Wade's father dying in a debt-driven loyalty center and the real-world explosion that kills Rick, both of which carry more emotional weight than the film's game-based action.
